Macmillan Caring Locally is a wonderful charity who care for people with canceer, they approached me to help them redesign their newsletter, updating the look and feel.

You can see the old Macmillan Caring Locally Newsletter by clicking on the link:  Click to see old Macmillan Caring Locally Newsletter Design.

To redesign the newsletter, first I focussed on defining key sections of the newsletter that would be permanent features in future issues; grouped topics by content; and simplified design in the Macmillan branded colours. My goal was for a clean, professional look that was easy to read (due to the older sway of the client base), quick to scan and find applicable content, interesting and flexible to update.

I also set up a newsletter template in Adobe InDesign, so that future editions could be easily produced, streamlining the process for Macmillan.

Macmillan are the kindest people, providing palliative care for patients, and support to families affected by cancer.

I decided that I wanted to give something back, so I volunteered my design skills to redesign their newsletter, and give it a more modern feel.

The redesigned newsletter met with great feedback from readers, and in promoting the great work that Macmillan perform.

Neil from Macmillan gave this testimonial:

“I wanted Gary to look at our website and newsletter, to check that ‘our message’ online and in-print is clear to our Supporters and Stakeholders. In a very short space of time Gary provided me with a completely rebuilt template for our newsletter, with a list of design tips for our in-house team to use when producing future issues. He also reviewed our web site, and made a series of very creative and innovative suggestions, that will definitely be incorporated in the next update.

In short Gary completely exceeded our expectations, and we will be delighted to work with him in the future”.
