I was approached by Scott Shinall,
(Teacher, You Tube Blogger and all round great guy from Kansai, Japan) to design a brand logo for his YouTube channel: chillinkansai
Following a consult with Scott, we decided to make him the face of his brand, as he covers a diverse range of topics related to ‘cool things in Kansai, Japan’, hence, I felt that by making him the brand, it would not limit the future direction of the channel and would appeal to a wider audience.
Guiding him through a ‘step-by-step’ process, asking many questions and providing many answers; Scott chose three primary colours and preferred graphic treatments; after several comps, I came up with two final logo versions seen here. The design had to reflect Scott’s chosen colour palette; have a modern – Asian feel (the red circles denote the Rising Sun, the blue reflect the cold element in chill); to be recognisable across digital- mediums and take into consideration Japanese
and katakana.
As part of the branding process, I designed several snowboard designs with the ‘chillinkansai logo’ to create a viral buzz on the slopes of Kansai in Winter. With Scotts’s brand and chosen audience, I suggested a similar ‘viral’ marketing approach to Banksy (a graffiti artist from the UK); not with tagging, but through encouraging curiosity by leaving cool stickers, or graphic heavy products in-sight of the target market to create
a buzz…
*A big thankyou to Scott Shinall from the YouTube Channel Chillinkansai, he was a great client to work with.
Part of my business model is to ‘educate’ clients through the process behind the task in-hand, to give them a better idea of what goes on, and to provide the best product for the client, involving them every step of the way.

Branding Redesign
& New Business Cards
To compliment my new logo redesign, I wanted an image with visual impact to reinforce the ‘natural brand’ and the tag line: ‘Consult. Design. Evolve’. I came across the illuminated house on the mountain; the visual scenery was perfect for the brand: the colours; impressive scale and a remote studio location – well, perhaps one day. The tag line ‘Consult. Design. Evolve’ follows the creative process I undertake with my projects, there is no period ‘.’ after Evolve as evolution is ‘the beginning’, ‘not the end’.

Architect Firm
Logos & Business Cards
Disclaimer:
As a creative challenge,
I designed two original logos
and business cards, to represent
a fictitious architect’s firm.
‘UPscale Architects’ bears no association or resemblance to any other company; it is purely fictitious for the purpose of this creative design exercise. Design work and photography are original. Photography used in this project is reproduced with full consent from the owner.

The first logo is a stylish approach to the brand, the second is a more modernist take on the brand, with a conceptual residential design and cornerstone gfx – representing ‘the solid foundations of the architect’s firm’. Both logos carry the tagline: Consult-Style-Evolve, representing the evolution of the development process through the brand. The business cards adopt the main colour palette of the modern logo and continuation of the brand styling.

Business Cards
Finally, after many months hard work with my colleague Alberto Quario (Founder) of ereadmytweets, the app that ‘Turns Your Twitter Stream Into An e-Book For Your Kindle™’ is about to launch. To celebrate and spread the word of such goodness, I designed the business card seen here.

Flyer Design For
Marketing Campaign
Meyersestates approached me to design a postcard / flyer to market their services as Dorset’s Premier On-line Estate Agents. Meyersestates tag-line is ‘Moving Beyond Expectations’, so I though it would be a good idea to show their ‘branded car’ and sold properties, to denote selling houses with speed, alongside their ‘key’ services of a low commission rate and customer care with family values.

Logo Design & Branding
Details on launch – coming soon.
As with any logo design, there is a process, here I have shown the direction I took with this branding exercise, from setting colour parameters to capturing the basic premise of the product -
Kindle and Twitter.
Due to ™ issues, we could not use KindleMyTweets, so we came up with e-ReadMyTweets instead.

Logo Redesign
I have been thinking about redesigning my logo for sometime. The design I came up with was inspired by my passion for photography and multi-media, the concept started with the two ‘split concentric circles’ representing the viewfinder in a camera, the duality of the colours representing the ‘natural’ elements, which later evolved into a more modern approach to the design.
To me, NaturalOutlook is how you view something, with anything creative ‘it is all about perspective’, so a representation of a camera viewfinder seemed like the perfect inspiration.

BEING – Marietomeoki.com
I was asked to design a poster for an upcoming artist exhibition – Marietomeoki.com (Japanese Contemporary Artist).
As the artist’s artwork is so varied, it was difficult to choose a universal theme. Furthermore, the artist did not want ‘just another picture of her art’ to promote the show, as many do.
The title of the exhibition is ‘BEING’, so, I opted to draw a vector of one of the characters featured in her work ‘Ojizō-sama’*; the character replaces the ‘i’ in ‘BEING’, where the ‘i’ denotes the artist herself…
I featured one of the artist’s designs and a subtle glow under the character, to illustrate the
life-force of ‘BEING’….
I felt the design was clean and simple, key to the Japanese artist and Japanese. minimalist aesthetic….so it could be used in future promotions…
The font choice is related to the character the artist is, fun loving and full of life.
*Ojizo-sama is a Japanese version of The Buddha.

Meyersestates.com
Meyersestates.com (real estate agents) approached me to help with their branding and website.
The brief was to explore a clean, modern design that would express the personal approach of the company, making a visual statement amongst competitors.
Following several concepts and feedback from the client, the final ‘meyers’ logo can be seen on the right; the triangle and housing graphic illustrating the directional tag line ‘moving beyond expectations’.
The client then asked me to design billboards. After carefully selecting a colour scheme, I had the idea of applying different colours depending on the type of sale: For Sale; To Let or other. I felt that the Meyers logo would gain visual recognition, and association by colour depending on ‘property needs’. After several rounds of revisions, I came up with the designs shown.
Finally, the client requested business cards, several versions were provided with the final results shown here.

Macmillan Cancer Care, (Dorset, UK)
Macmillan Caring Locally, looked after my lovely mum. I wanted to give something back, so I volunteered my design skills.
This is a redesign of their newsletter; you can see the old version by clicking here.
I defined key sections that could be featured in future issues; grouped topics by content; and simplified design in the Macmillan branded colours. My goal was for a clean, professional look that was easy to read, interesting and flexible
to update.
I also set up a newsletter template in Adobe InDesign, so that future editions could be easily produced, streamlining the process for Macmillan.
